Daniel(ink.) does LA

My Dad, my sister and I took daniel(ink.) on tour for three weeks in late September/October, to the USA to promote my t-shirts and designs. As we were crossing through Melbourne, we picked up my sister, Nathalie, and then it was on to our first destination, LA. This was where we were to spend the first 11 days of our trip – doing a mix of work and play.        The next day we set up at a market in LA called 'Melrose Trading Post'. Our accommodation was close to the market which was convenient for an early start! The market was great and I got to meet loads of new people and chat to them about what I...

A Neighbours dream come true!

Yes, I have to admit I am a big fan of Neighbours! Like really, really big. Just ask anyone who knows me. Neighbours has been my favourite TV show for a really, really long time.  On the last day I spent in Melbourne (when I was there for the Finders Keepers market last month), I was lucky enough to have a visit organised to see the Neighbours set! While I was having a look around the set, I bumped into four members of the cast who play Sonya, Sheila, Piper and David. It absolutely made my day! Just look at the smile on my face - says it all! While I was there, I also got to see a scene...

An Exciting Collaboration!

From the very beginning I knew that my business would be designed to give back to others. Having cerebral palsy and knowing first-hand how organisations such as the Ability Centre can help people like me, I knew that, when possible, I wanted to focus on how I could also help others. Ever since I started daniel(ink.) two years ago, I have donated 10% of profits from the sale of my t-shirts to the Ability Centre (formerly known as the Centre for Cerebral Palsy), which is something I am super proud of and will continue to do. I am also incredibly proud to announce another upcoming collaboration! *drum roll, please* Over the next three months (June - August 2015) I will be...

Mentoring

I have an arts mentor, Antony Muia. This year I was lucky enough to receive funding through DADAA (Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia) to help me continue to develop my art practise. Ant comes to see me at home or sometimes I go to his home studio or we go to an exhibition together. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect, but what I’ve found is that we’ve developed a great relationship where I feel comfortable exploring different art practises, to learn from Ant, and to try things for myself. It’s definitely not like having a teacher. Ant may guide me, but he lets me develop my art by myself. We talk about all...

Laughter

LOL Daniel(ink.) had a night out recently to see comedian Bill Bailey. Growing up, I always wanted to be a comedian and I’ve always enjoyed watching stand-up. Bill didn’t disappoint! He was so funny, we laughed a lot and it lifted my mood through the roof! We managed to give him a couple of Daniel(ink.) T-shirts and he signed one for us. Bill now joins my growing collection of comedians who have our T-shirts, which already includes Danny Bhoy, Adam Hills, Josh Thomas and Labby & Stav. You’ve got be happy with that! They’ve kept me laughing for years and I’m grateful they’ve been happy to show support for Daniel(ink.)   , too. After the Bill Bailey show, I wondered how comedy...
